The International Cricket Calendar is once again in its full glory. Top international teams in various parts of the world, including India, are engaged in various formats of competition, which has everyone’s eyes on it. Apart from this, domestic tournaments are also being held, where some great performances are being witnessed. A similar sight was seen in Australia’s domestic List-A tournament One Day Cup on Monday, where fast bowler Sam Elliott took 7 wickets for just 8 runs. After this he also contributed with the bat to lead the team to victory.
Lost 7 wickets in just 8 runs
While the Australian team is playing an ODI series on the tour of England these days, there is also an ODI tournament going on at home. In the same tournament, Victoria’s Sam Elliott caused a stir in a match played in Melbourne on Monday 23 September. Played on the green pitch of Melbourne’s Junction Oval, this match could not produce a big score and the reason for this was Elliott’s lethal bowling. The tall fast bowler destroyed Tasmania’s batting and the entire team was bowled out for just 126 runs.
Tasmania had lost the wickets of both openers before the havoc of Elliott, who came to bowl at number four. After this only Sam Elliott’s name appeared on the scoreboard before every wicket. Elliott, who came to bowl in the 11th over, took a wicket on the first ball and then took 7 wickets in just 8 overs. At one point Elliott took 7 wickets in just 6.2 overs of bowling, while scoring only 8 runs against him. 4 runs came from his last 8 balls and thus Elliott ended the innings with 7 wickets for 12 runs in 8 overs. Elliott’s bowling is the second best performance in the 55-year history of the ODI Cup.
Another excellent bowling performance
However, Eliot missed out on equaling the record set 20 years earlier. In 2004, Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait took 8 wickets for 43 runs. He also surpassed Australian cricket greats like Josh Hazlewood (7/36) and Mitchell Starc (6/25). If this was not enough, Elliott contributed significantly with the bat and led the team to victory. During the run chase, Victoria lost 6 wickets for just 72 runs, when Elliott came in to bat at number 8. He played an unbeaten innings of 19 off 28 balls and led the team to victory along with captain Will Sutherland (36).
